Ramadan is a very spiritually significant time of the Islamic lunar calendar and is known as the holy month. It is a period where Muslims should refrain from otherworldly distractions and spend the majority of their time throughout the month strengthening their faith. It is a time to reflect, pray and repent for past sins, seeking forgiveness from Allah (SWT) and devoting their time and effort to Him. This is achieved by acts of worship, praying to Him and declaring His greatness. The whole month is a very powerful time that can earn believers immense rewards. However, there is an even more special time within this month known as Laylat al-Qadr or the Night of Power.

So, what is Laylat al-Qadr? This is the last 10 nights of the month of Ramadan, which is known to be more rewarding than the entire month, and even the year! It is the time when, in Islamic history, the Angel Jibril revealed the first verses of the Quran to the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). This started the Islamic faith as we know it today and built the first Muslim ummah (community). Since this huge historical event occurred during the last 10 nights of Ramadan, it has brought immense significance and rewards to this part of the holy month. Laylat al-Qadr is believed to hold rewards that are greater than a thousand months. It is also believed to occur on the odd-numbered nights, so Muslims should look for it during these days, as well as throughout the last 10 nights. Searching for the Night of Power means believers must spend even more time in acts of worship to earn these immense rewards.

For Laylat al-Qadr in 2026, Muslims should dedicate most of their time to prayer, reflection, reciting the Quran and other acts of worship in order to claim these rewards. The unparalleled significance of these last 10 nights is described by Allah (SWT) in the Quran, showing Muslims why they should make the most of this unique opportunity:

We have indeed revealed this in the ‘Night of Power’. And what will explain to you what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand months. Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah’s permission, on every errand.” [Al-Qadr 1-5].

When Does the Last 10 Nights of Ramadan Start?

Many people wonder when does the last 10 nights of Ramadan start? Because the Islamic calendar is based on the lunar cycle, not the solar cycle like the Gregorian calendar, the dates of when Laylat al-Qadr begins vary every year. However, the last 10 nights will always start from the night of the 21st day of the holy month. This period of time will then continue all the way to the night of the 30th day, when Ramadan will come to a close. The Night of Power is believed to fall on one of the odd-numbered nights, which will be the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th and 29th night of the month of Ramadan. So you should seek the Ramadan odd nights in 2026 to earn incredible blessings.

The Importance of the Last 10 Nights

The last 10 nights of the holy month are massively important because they hold a lot more rewards for acts of worship than the rest of Ramadan and every month of the Islamic year. The Night of Power holds the power to give Muslims blessings and rewards that are greater than a thousand months, ensuring that believers please Allah (SWT) and stay dedicated to Him toward the end of a challenging yet rewarding month. Ramadan and the last 10 nights take Muslims on a spiritual journey of renewal and devotion to Islam, reconnecting them to their faith and Allah (SWT) through acts of worship like fasting and prayer. Spending more time dedicating yourself to Islam during these nights is an extremely powerful way to strengthen your faith and relationship to Islam.

Laylat al-Qadr also holds profound meanings, like “decree” and “honour”, so it is literally a night of honour – which is why many believers need to dedicate their efforts even more than they do during the other weeks of Ramadan. It is a night of intense devotion when decrees for the upcoming year are set. Due to this, Muslims can earn multiple spiritual rewards during these days. The promise of many rewards that believers can be blessed with encourages them to spend their time in acts of worship, reflection and seeking forgiveness, providing them with rewards that equal a thousand months!

Some Muslims even dedicate themselves even more during these nights, following in the footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He would intensify his worship throughout these sacred nights and perform I’tikaf. This would be when the Prophet (PBUH) would go to the mosque for uninterrupted devotion to Allah (SWT). Spending time performing acts of Dhikr, making dua for the last 10 nights of Ramadan and reading the Quran should be a key focus for Muslims because this is what the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) did during this time.

When is Laylat al-Qadr 2026?

Laylat al-Qadr in 2026 is expected to begin on the 10th March, which will be the 21st night of the holy month and will continue until around the 18th March, which will mark the end of Ramadan. The celebration of Eid al-Fitr will then follow around the 19th March where Muslims will feast with loved ones and their communities.

Is it the 27th Night of Ramadan in 2026 That You Need to Remember?

Many Muslims will seek the 27th night of Ramadan in 2026 because many scholars and schools of thought believe that the Night of Power is the 27th night. So, it all depends on your beliefs and when you think the powerful night will occur. However, no matter what beliefs a Muslim has, they will increase their acts of worship across the last 10 nights of Ramadan in 2026 to ensure that they receive the immense rewards. This is because, even though some believe the night to fall on the 27th of Ramadan, it still isn’t set in stone. No one really knows when the exact night is, but it is recommended to seek during Ramadan the odd nights in 2026.

What is the Last Jumma of Ramadan?

The last Jumma of Ramadan is the last Friday of the holy month, which is also a very significant time. This is when the last prayer in congregation for the month occurs before the Eid congregational prayer begins. It is an exciting time that acts as a bittersweet goodbye to the month of Ramadan. This last Friday is an opportunity for Muslims to maximise the blessings and rewards of the sacred month and give their all in worship and good deeds, sort of like the final sprint in a marathon.
