Udhiyah, also known as Qurbani, is a sacred act of worship that occurs in the month of Dhul Hijjah during Eid al-Adha. This ritual helps Muslims connect closer to Allah (SWT), show their devotion to Him and grow spiritually. It also commemorates the sacrifice that the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was willing to make for Allah (SWT), and an opportunity for Muslims to show that same devotion to Him. While udhiyah is a very sacred act of worship, it’s not the only spiritually significant part of Dhul Hijjah. There are also the celebration of Eid al-Adha and the holy Hajj pilgrimage that occur in this final month of the Islamic year. The Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca is a time for Muslims to devote themselves to Allah (SWT) and visit historically important landmarks where vital Islamic events occurred. As for Eid al-Adha, this is a huge celebration that lasts for four days, with the first day beginning on the 10th of Dhul Hijjah. Believers come together to spend time with family, friends and the community to exchange gifts, eat traditional dishes and pray together.
Within this greater Eid is udhiyah (Qurbani), which is when Muslims make a sacrifice and the meat from this sacrifice is given to those in desperate need. At Emaan Relief, we take your udhiyah donation and carry out the sacrifice in line with Islamic regulations in some of the most vulnerable communities. We distribute the meat to struggling families who cannot afford to put food on the table to help them survive and finally feel the joy of Eid. With your help, we can provide families with healthy meals to end their suffering and bring hope for a brighter future.
The udhiyah sacrifice is a ritual that must be performed by able Muslims over the days of Eid al-Adha. It requires those who meet or exceed the Nisab threshold and pay Zakat to sacrifice an animal to seek the pleasure of Allah (SWT) and show devotion to Him. Animals that are usually sacrificed during this ritual are sheep, goats, cows, buffalo or camels. This is done to remember the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and to give believers the chance to reflect his loyalty to God. Ibrahim (AS) was commanded by Allah (SWT) to sacrifice his only son, Ismail (AS), during multiple dreams. Although this command pained Ibrahim (AS), he knew in his heart that the sacrifice must be done and so showed unwavering loyalty by following the command. He took Ismail (AS) to Mount Arafat, where his son also willingly allowed the sacrifice to happen, to carry it out. Just as Ibrahim (AS) was about to do the sacrifice, Allah (SWT) stopped it and sent down a ram in place of Ismail to reward them both for their devotion to Him.
This story is what began the sacred act of worship of udhiyah to help Muslims bring that same faithfulness, love and devotion for Allah (SWT) into their own lives and remember what the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) was willing to do for his faith.
Making a udhiyah donation allows you to honour the devotion and sacrifice the Prophet Ibrahim (AS) made and show that same loyalty to Allah (SWT). You can earn reward from Him and strengthen your connection to Islam and your spirituality. Alongside this, the most important part about your donation is that it helps those in desperate need around the world. The meat from the sacrifice you donate to can provide struggling families with meat to enjoy nutritious meals over Eid al-Adha and give them life-saving sustenance. For most families, the gift of meat helps to save their lives and is the only time of the year they get to have this luxury.
Making your udhiyah donation to Emaan Relief will ensure that the meat from your sacrifice reaches the most vulnerable communities across the world who face extreme poverty and hardship every single day. Through your generosity, our team can give families a sustainable, healthy future and work to put an end to poverty. Donate udhiyah in time for Eid al-Adha to save countless lives and help them find a way out of poverty.
To give udhiyah, Muslims carry out an animal sacrifice in line with Islamic regulations to do it properly. This sacrifice begins on the first day of Eid al-Adha after the congregational prayer in the morning and must be done during the days of Eid – all the way up until the sun sets on the fourth day. The purpose of this is to make sure that the meat reaches the hungry during the celebration so that they can join in with everyone else and feel the joy of Eid through a nutritious meal.
Due to strict slaughter regulations in the UK, believers cannot carry out the sacrifice themselves. This is why we are here to take your donations and perform the sacrifice for you in poverty-stricken areas to feed those who don’t have the basic necessities to survive. Our team ensure that your donation makes a meaningful difference to many families and ends their hunger to enjoy the Eid celebrations. All you have to do is donate toward an animal, either one small one like a sheep or a share of a larger animal like a camel that is equal to 7 shares. You can select the region you want the meat to help, allowing you to provide nutrition to the most vulnerable communities where resources are scarce.
